Key Messages Treatment discontinuation has been associated with high relapse rates. Duration of prior treatment was not associated with a decreased risk of relapse after treatment discontinuation. Findings support the dopamine hypothesis, which suggests that symptoms of schizophrenia occur due to dopamine dysregulation.
