Description

The monoamine hypothesis has been the prevailing theory underlying depression. This presentation will examine the alternative and emerging hypothesis of depression pathophysiology, including non-monoamine neurotransmitters, genetic influences, hormonal effects, immunology, and neurotrophic factors.

Philip G. Janicak, M.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine and a Consultant at the Neuromodulation Center at Northwestern University. He received his medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University. Dr. Janicak completed a residency in psychiatry at Foster G. McGaw Hospital in Maywood, Illinois.
