Young Adults With Higher Than Average Use Of Social Media More Likely To Develop Depression Within Six Months
Young adults ages 18 to 30 in the United States who had higher than average social media use were more likely to develop depression within six months. The study included 990 participants who were not depressed when the study started. Six months later, 9.6% developed depression. The adjusted odds of developing depression were 2.77 times higher among the participants who had the highest baseline use of social media than participants with the lowest baseline social media use.
