Veteran Suicide Rate At 1.5 Times That For Non-Veteran Adults

In 2017, the rate of veteran suicide was 1.5 times that for non-veteran adults, after adjusting for age and sex. During this year, the average rate of veteran suicide was 27.7 per 100,000; the average rate of non-veteran suicide was 16.8 per 100,000. Since 2008, veteran suicides have exceeded 6,000 each year. However, the rate of veteran suicide has only increased 6.1% since 2005, while the rate of non-veteran adult suicides has increased 43.6% since 2005.
