Recent research has presented possible links to both risk and protective factors regarding the occurrence of schizophrenia. This presentation provides an overview of some of these factors and the schizophrenia disease pathology behind them, including genetic mutations, prenatal infections, inflammatory imbalances, glial cell activation, and others. Immunomodulatory treatment possibilities are also discussed.
