Virtual Forum: Understanding The Role Of Neurotransmitters In The Treatment Of Depression
Location: Online Via PsychU.org
Description: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is common, affecting an estimated 16 million US adults each year. However, less than 40% of patients receive minimally adequate treatment. In this virtual forum, Robert Nelson MD, psychiatrist at DGR Behavioral Health LLC in Wyomissing, PA and Prakash Masand, MD, Chairman and CEO of Global Medical Education, New York, NY will highlight the unmet needs in the treatment of MDD and review the monoamine hypothesis in the etiology of MDD and the monoamine circuits within the brain. Discussion will follow, including pharmacologic considerations when selecting an appropriate treatment strategy for patients with MDD, alternative hypotheses in the etiology of MDD, and proposed mechanisms of action of current treatment options for MDD. The virtual forum will conclude with time for questions from the audience.
