Description: Dr. Roger McIntyre, MD, FRCPC, is currently engaged in research on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health conditions in China, where the virus was first described. In this webinar, Dr. McIntyre will share findings of this work with the PsychU community. He will be speaking to the psychological impact of the virus’ effect on those with and without psychiatric illnesses.

Dr. McIntyre will be sharing late-breaking insights into the immediate mental health status of the workforce in China who had to return to work during the COVID-19 epidemic, and touch upon the effect of social media and psychological distress. Lastly, Dr. McIntyre will provide insights from a 4-week longitudinal study on mental health of the general population during this epidemic in China and discuss implications to safeguard mental wellbeing during a pandemic.

Roger S. McIntyre, M.D. FRCPC, is a Professor of Psychiatry & Pharmacology at the University of Toronto, and Head of the Mood Disorders Psychopharmacology Unit at the University Health Network, Toronto, Canada. He is also the Executive Director of the Brain & Cognition Discovery Foundation and Director and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) in Chicago, Illinois. Furthermore, Dr. McIntyre is a Clinical Professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York, and a Clinical Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine. Dr. McIntyre received his medical degree from Dalhousie University. He completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Toronto.
