Virtual Forum: Suicide Affects Everyone: The Role Of The Health Care Professional In Suicide Prevention
Location: Online Via PsychU.org
Description: Suicide is a critical issue across the globe, with 90% of suicide deaths occurring in individuals with a mental health diagnosis. Unfortunately, suicide rates have been climbing over the last several decades, where we have seen a 24% increase within the United States over the last 15 years. Within this important virtual forum, Dr. Christine Moutier (Chief Medical Officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, AFSP) and Dr. Anthony Pisani (Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide at University of Rochester) will discuss key aspects of suicide awareness, assessment, research, and prevention strategies. The primary focus of the discussion will center on assessment and prevention techniques, as well as empirically validated clinical application tools that can be incorporated across medicine from psychiatry specialty clinics to the primary care setting.
Dr. Moutier is a paid consultant for Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization, Inc. However, both speakers are volunteering their time for this event.
