Description

Virtual Forum: Improving Healthcare For Mental Health Patients: Is Collaborative Care The Answer?

Location: Online Via PsychU.org

Description: Persons with severe mental disorders die 10-20 years earlier than the general population, with the majority of deaths being due to preventable physical diseases. Lack of care coordination and management has been cited as one the multiple factors leading to this phenomenon. In this virtual forum, Rebecca Roma, MD will discuss the mortality risks in patients with mental disorders, review the concept of collaborative care, and outline how collaborative care programs may offer a solution to the gap in treatment for patients. Additionally, Dr. Roma, as well as the following speakers from across the nation, will discuss their programs as examples of how collaborative care models are being used to improve patient health:

  • Cheen Lum, PharmD, BCPP, Clinical Pharmacist Specialist; Psychiatry & Ambulatory Pharmacist, Gallahue Community Mental Health Center
  • Kathy Gonzalez, RN, Partner, TPN, Psych Nurse Community Outreach Program

Dr. Roma is a paid consultant for Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization, Inc.
