Description: When substance use disorder and mental illness occur together, affected individuals may be more susceptible to poor physical health, relapse, social distress, and other detrimental outcomes. Research has shown that integrating mental health and substance abuse care may be of benefit to this vulnerable population. During this virtual forum you’ll hear from two experts in the field of Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) who are instrumental in assisting providers in Michigan adopt this innovative approach: Mark Lowis, MSW, LMSW, an Evidence-Based Practices Implementation Specialist for Michigan Department of Health and Human Services; and Jennifer Harrison, PhD, LMSW, CAADC, an Assistant Professor at the Western Michigan University School of Social Work.
