Psychosis is ranked as one of the top three most disabling conditions worldwide, with a longer duration of untreated psychosis associated with a poorer treatment outcome. It is believed that deterioration in functions and abilities occur at the fastest rate during the early phase of psychosis, and it has been hypothesized that the greatest impact in the treatment of psychosis might occur during this ‘critical period’ of neuronal and psychosocial plasticity.
